May Report from LTRG
posted 12 months ago by WeedLTRG from Weed Long Term Recovery Group
Case Management continues to coordinate resources and volunteer help to ensure fairness and prevent duplication of services for those households who complete the requirements for assistance. There are 50 residential cases active in some phase of rebuilding, 20 of them have provided details for what they need help with. Readiness is essential to match available resources of volunteer time and materials to those who want to receive assistance. Those demonstrating financial need may receive priority. Survivors who would like assistance in any phase of recovery should call Andrea Herr 408-0012 at the LTRG office located upstairs from the library at 150 Alamo.
Fiscal Report As of May 1 - Shasta Regional Community Disaster Relief Fund has distributed $459,228.42 with a balance of $182,128.55. (LTRG this week approved a $15,000 disbursement that is not reflected in this amount) As of last report from United Way of Northern CA - $69,270 distributed with a balance of $133,108.02. A snapshot record of how the funds that have been distributed by United Way is attached to this report.
Landscaping Soil Project Shasta Regional Community Foundation and the LTRG recently approved $15,000 from the Community Disaster Relief Fund to the Rotary Club of Weed Charitable Foundation’s Landscaping Soil Project. This project is intended to aid homeowners who are ready for landscaping their lots after rebuilding. Boles Fire survivors who want to take advantage of this first round opportunity must contact Case Management at 408-0012 ASAP. As more homes are built and ready, a second round may be offered in the future. Thanks go out to the Weed Rotary Club and the LTRG Resources Committee for taking on this project and working out the details.
Volunteer Coordination Between now and August 1st the Weed Long Term Recovery Group Volunteer Coordinator has scheduled over 100 volunteers from 8 groups who are lined up to help homeowners with everything from construction and painting to fencing and landscaping. These are church and service group volunteers from all over California that are making the trip to Weed to be of service to Boles Fire survivors. They work hard, spend money in the community and leave with a sense of good will. Some volunteers are coming back for a second summer of work! Those who may be available to offer meals to host volunteer groups are asked to contact Brenda Ducchi at 408-0023. Resources – Many survivors are finding that they need to use personal contents money from their insurance settlements for construction costs which leads to a gap for financing household goods. The Church of Christ is still offering appliances and beds to Boles Fire survivors on a case by case basis and Goodwill of Southern Oregon donation cards may still be available. Contact Case Management if interested.
Siskiyou Habitat for Humanity Projects Three homes are planned for construction in the near future. Ground breaking for the first one is scheduled for Monday, May 16th. For more information about this program or to donate to the Boles Fire Fund of Siskiyou Habitat for Humanity, please call 938-2612.
Upcoming meetings The LTRG meets monthly - next on Tuesday, June 14th at 2 pm at the Parks and Rec Conference Room at Bel Air Park on College Avenue. These meetings are open to the public. The Executive Committee may meet to consider any Community Disaster Relief Fund or United Way funding requests as they come up outside of these meeting times.
We continue to share the structure of our work with those contacting us from the Lake and Butte fires, and now Fort McMurry Canada, all of whom are most appreciative.
